Mistake Applicant Make When Applying for Jobs Online

*Mistakes Applicant Make When Applying for Jobs*

Many people think the interview is the first step in finding a job. What most people don’t know is that the application is really the first step. A job application is the first contact you have with a future employer, even before you meet them face to face for an interview. Your application has the power to land you the job, or prohibit you from getting it.

Forward Application:
Most applicant, forward applicant to multiple recruiter and job opening. It so evident that you would see their previous correspondence with other employers. not only is this  bad, it is unprofessional and shows laziness. Be thorough and put effort when applying for a job.

Not customizing your cover letter to the job posting
While you should always tailor your resume to the job posting, you also need to make sure you're customizing your cover letter to suit the job description. Your cover letter is basically a sales pitch to convince the hiring manager why the position interests you and why you're the best candidate for the job. Employers can spot a generic cover letter from miles away, and your application will surely be tossed into the trash if you choose to go down that road!
Be sure to diligently research the company and tactfully highlight your skills that match what the organization is looking for. Your cover letter is also a great platform to let the hiring manager get a glimpse of your personality and convince them that you're a great fit for the company's culture. Use this tool wisely when you submit a job application online.

Cover Letter (which is mostly used as the body of the mail) is usually forwarded by applicant. They copy and paste the application of other job roles for a different one. For example, you are applying for an “Admin Officer” and your email body is addressing the role of a “Sales Representative” because you copied your application from the sales representative job role without editing. “You cannot use one application for  multiple job roles” if you have experience as a sales representative and an administrative officer, market yourself as both!!. Be thorough inyour application, read through and write a email that sells you base on the job you are applying to especially if you have active experience.

Poor email etiquette
If you sent a job application via email and did not hear back from the hiring manager, recheck your email and ensure that you didn't make some of these cringe-worthy mistakes that turn hiring managers off.
First of all, make sure that your email has a subject line (You the position as the subject, unless otherwise stated)  that's professional, concise, and relevant. Additionally, your email address should reflect professionalism. For example, emails such as “asutinskyboy@gmail.com or Judefineboy@yahoo.com” be a turnoff for most potential employers.
Another email etiquette mistake that applicants often unknowingly make is using poor grammar and punctuation. Nobody needs to know that you're confused with the use of you're and your. Another turnoff for hiring managers is when you misspell their name. You saying “ Dear Valorie, hope you have a great week ahead!” will certainly not help make Valerie's day any better!

The proper job application: Have an email body, brief and concised (learn to summarize) If you have a cover letter and you are not asked to attach it as a file use it as your email body or you could send salutions, state the purpose of your mail and why you should be hired by briefly starting (SAA) skills, achievements and abilities then close your mail with a complementary close and Your name!!

Applying for multiple positions at the same company
When you desperately need a job to pay the bills, you might be tempted to apply to every job opening that you come across, even if there are multiple ones from the same company. While this move might appear to increase your chances of landing a job, it could actually reflect badly on you and backfire! This is one of the common online job-application mistakes that newbies make. When you apply to multiple positions at the same company, employers will assume that you're either not taking the job search seriously or have no idea what career path you really want to take. Either way, it leaves a bad impression of you and makes it appear that you're not passionate about any particular field.

Not Following Instructions:
Some Job adverts have their specified instructions and most times those instructions are put in place to make recruitment easy, it is important that applicant adhere strictly to instructions and that will be the first sieving process. Some recruitment may require the subject of the mail to be some code and location please follow strictly! Include all required documents

Submitting a poorly written Resume:
Your CV is the first impression the recruiter has about you, Ensure it impresses. Some applicant applicant go as far as sending their resume as a picture
Other send “Cyber CV” with no work details or achievements. This is the ultimate part of your application and if you get the above list currently and your Cv is poor the chances of you getting an interview invitation is very slim
