Many applicant apply for jobs without getting an interview invitation, and they keep wondering what's wrong?. Maybe they are applying with the wrong resume. The listed resumes mistakes will tell you why you don't get feedbacks.
* Saving your CV with "My CV, updated resume, new CV, current resume, recently updated resume"
Your CV is the first impression an Hiring Manager have of you, it's your duty to ensure that your application impresses. Using the listed names to save your CV makes you look unprofessional and unorganised. it makes their job even more difficult as they will find it hard to track your CV. It is best to save your CV with your name and your surname.
*Writing "CV or Resume" on the top right front of your resume. This is also very unprofessional. You do not need to add CV on your CV. It's a waste of CV space and it makes the recruiter think you don't know what you are doing. They already know it's a CV, why write it up again??
*Unprofessional Email Address: This could also ruin your chance of getting an interview invite even though you are have a very good resume. You are advertising yourself in an unprofessional manner. There should be a different between your social life and work life. Stay away from pinkyrose@gmail.com, slayqueenthelma@yahoo.com or even changing your names. Instead of Rebecca you use Beckybabe..... please stick to your real names and surname. Janedoe@yahoo.com or Johndoe@yahoo.com
*Including a profile picture or a headshot:
Your resume is not a place to include your pictures or passport (unless strictly instructed) others wise don't!. It's already a disqualifer. That's the function of your LinkedIn account, Your linkedin account should be a marketing place where you can sell yourself professionally by including your profile picture as well. Managers who wants further graphical image of you will check your LinkedIn account, by no means add a headshot to your resume
*Insignificant Information:
Including unnecessary details such as marital status, age, date of birth, social media handles, nationality, state of origin, etc. The social media handles you can add to your CV are the one that have a professional representation of you like a good LinkedIn or Twitter account, otherwise please leave your social handles out of your resumes. Adding academic grades especially when its poor is a shot on the leg, you are trying to stop yourself from even walking. Please avoid information that has nothing to do with your competency and ability to perform on the job. Your CV should contain only 3 things
Who are you (professionally)
What are your qualifications, KSA (knowledge skills and abilities)
Why should your be the most suitable candidate.
Anything that is not reference to the 3 component listed above should be not be added to your resume
*Career Objective
While I agree that career objective, summary, professional profile, professional summary mean the same thing in the real sense. "career objective" is outdated. It focuses on the "want".
Use professional or career summary instead. This is the biggest selling point of your CV, you may want to be very careful in crafting this section, This is the few of the places the recruiters will read before they decide on either to continue reading through your resume or thrashing it in the recycle bin.
Career summary or professional profile is a two sentence summary of your experience, skills, abilities and accomplishments as regards the job opening. It's meant to talk about who you are, what you have done (experience) what you can do (skills) and what want to give with your experience and skills. The main goals of the professional summary is to make your skills and experience noticeable to the Hiring Manager and more importantly to keep them glue to your CV. This is the sometimes the first thing a recruiter checks on your CV and if it is badly written it will be the last.
Many applicant make alot of mistakes in this section by writing what they are want like "
Seeking a dynamic and challenging work environment that requires the provision of quality professional service in building a good career." This is a career objective which is wrong and outdated, it showing no skills or experience or even telling the HR manager what you can do. It is important to note that a bad career summary with a good work experience may leave your CV in the next trash bin.
